How to generate online tests, quizzes or exams using AI?

Creating tests, quizzes, and exams on Testportal can be even easier with the possibility of generating questions with AI. This mechanism will help you prepare test questions. AI won’t do all the work related to test configuration for you - but it will definitely speed things up. To make generating tests with AI effective, remember to follow these principles:

The more text you paste or upload as a source of the test for the generation, the better the quality of the generated test questions will be. AI will have more material from which it will generate your test, and the questions will not repeat, giving a better picture of the knowledge and skills of people taking your tests.
After generating the test with AI, remember to check the created questions. The mechanism is not infallible, and the questions may require changes.

Generating tests with AI using uploaded materials

Creating AI tests from materials uploaded by you is possible in two ways. First, you can paste your source text from which the test questions will be generated. Second, you can create a test using the file you uploaded.

How to generate a test using AI from pasted source text?

You can generate a test using AI from your source text in the following way:

On the "My Tests" screen, select Generate tests using AI.
When the window for selecting the test generation mode by AI appears, use "Questions related to the content you upload" by confirming with the Continue button.
In the "Generate test with AI" window, use the Paste text option.
Paste your text into the field below the graphic.
You can do this by using the right mouse button and the Paste option or using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + V / Command + V.
Below the text field, select the questions type you want to generate and their number.
Use the Generate option to start the process of creating questions.
After a while, you will see a preview of several generated questions. Select Continue if you want to keep them in your test. Use Back when you want to enter a different source material and generate new questions based on it.
After accepting, you will be taken to the Questions manager view. Now you can check the generated questions and add attachments such as images, documents, or audio files to them.

Remember, the more unique source text you add, the better the quality of the test questions generated for you will be.

How to create a test using AI from an uploaded file?

To create a test with AI from an uploaded file, follow these steps:

On the "My Tests" screen, select Generate test with AI.
When the window for selecting the test generation mode by AI appears, use "Questions related to
the content you upload" by confirming with the Continue button.
In the "Generate test with AI" window, use the Upload file option.
Click on the "Select PDF or Microsoft Word file to upload" field to select a PDF or Microsoft Word file to upload from your computer's disk. If you have a PowerPoint file, save it as a PDF and then load it for generating the test with AI.
If you want to generate test questions for only a few pages of the attached file, use the "Paste text" option or remove unnecessary sections from the file.
In the "Question type" field, select the type of questions you want to generate, and in the "Number of questions" field, select their number.
Use the Generate option to start creating AI questions.
After a moment, you will see a preview of the generated questions. Choose Continue if you want to keep them in your test. Use Back if you want to select a different file or paste text to generate new questions based on it.
After accepting, you will be taken to the Questions manager view. Now you can review the generated questions and add attachments such as images, documents, or audio files to them.

The best results are achieved when generating a test from a file that is text-rich. If the PDF or Word file you submit is full of images, AI test generation will not work because there will be no text to be found in it.
Your file may contain tables, charts, and images, but text must be present. If you upload material such as a table of contents, the AI test generation mechanism will skip it, but for better quality questions, it is better to paste the text.

How to generate a test or quiz based on a PowerPoint presentation?

Open your PowerPoint file.
Select the File tab, and then select Export.
Click the Create PDF/XPS button.
In the "Publish as PDF or XPS" window, choose the location to save the PDF file with your presentation.
Give the file a name in the "File name" field.
In the "Save as type" field, select "PDF".
Select Publish to save the presentation as a PDF file in the location you choose.
You can upload this saved file to Testportal to generate a test using AI.

How to add new questions to a test generated using AI?

You can enrich the test with additional questions in two ways:

Add your own question using the green Add question button. Learn more about creating your own questions in the test.
Generate a question using the Generate test with AI option.

Add another question generated with AI to the test by following these steps:

On the Question Manager screen, select the arrow next to the green Add question button.
The Generate test with AI option will appear. Click on it.
In the "Generate test with AI" window, paste the next source material and follow the steps described in ’How to generate a test using AI from pasted source text?’.
